  • HVAC systems and air ducts, quietly circulating particles through your home

This can lead to a heightened inflammatory response or prolonged symptoms after exposure. In practical terms, two people can live in the same environment, yet one develops significant symptoms while the other notices very little.

Another important factor is what functional medicine practitioners often call the “total load.” Rarely is mould the only stressor the body is dealing with. Chronic stress, poor sleep, nutrient deficiencies, gut dysfunction, infections, environmental chemicals, and emotional strain can all accumulate over time. Eventually, the body reaches a threshold where its ability to adapt and recover becomes overwhelmed.
